How to Apply Press-On Nails

For a Long-Lasting, Seamless Set

Proper application makes all the difference in how your nails look and how long they last. Follow each step carefully. Skipping prep is the number one cause of lifting.

Step 1: Gently Push Back Your Cuticles

Use a cuticle stick to carefully push back the thin layer of skin at the base of your nail.

Why this matters:
Cuticles are dead skin that sits on the nail plate. If you apply press-ons over them, the nail will not fully adhere to your natural nail, which can cause lifting, gaps, and shorter wear time. Pushing them back creates a clean surface for maximum contact and a more seamless, salon-quality look.

Step 2: Buff Your Natural Nails and the Inside of the Press-Ons

Lightly buff the surface of your natural nails to remove shine. Then gently buff the inside of each press-on nail.

Why this matters:
Your natural nails are smooth and slightly oily, which makes it harder for glue to grip. Buffing creates a slightly rough texture so the glue can bond properly. Buffing the inside of the press-on does the same thing. It gives the glue something to hold onto, increasing durability and helping prevent early pop-offs.

Step 3: Clean Your Nails Thoroughly Before Application

Use an alcohol wipe or acetone to remove dust, oils, and residue from your nails after buffing.

Why this matters:
Even small amounts of oil, dust, or moisture can break down the adhesive bond. This step ensures your nails are completely clean and dry, which is essential for long-lasting wear. Skipping this step is one of the most common reasons press-ons do not stay on.

Step 4: Apply the Nail at an Angle

Apply a small amount of glue to both your natural nail and the press-on. Place the press-on at a 45-degree angle starting near the cuticle, then slowly press it down toward the tip. Hold firmly for 30 to 60 seconds.

Why this matters:
Applying at an angle helps avoid air bubbles, which can weaken the bond and cause lifting. It also allows the nail to sit flush against your cuticle for a natural, snug fit. Pressing firmly ensures the glue spreads evenly and fully adheres.

Pro Tip for Best Results

Avoid water, lotions, or oils for at least 1 to 2 hours after application.

Why this matters:
Glue continues to cure after application. Exposure to moisture too soon can weaken the bond and shorten wear time.
